The Escuadra Minerva Association, together with the Yecla City Council, the Yecla Wine Route Association, the Regulatory Council of the DO "Vinos de Yecla", and the Association of Stewards organize the eleventh edition of the Fiestas de la Virgen oenological contest, which will be held in Yecla on Saturday, December 3.

Focusing on the acts that this XI edition will include, on December 3, we will have on the one hand

    • An amateur taster contest that will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Regulatory Council facilities and whose attendance will be limited to the participants.
    • In the afternoon at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Auditorium, a conference will be held by Joaquín Gálvez, international winemaking advisor, together with the awards ceremony. Attendance at this event is free.

As for the tasters contest, registration for it can be found on the squad's website www.escuadraminerva.com. Its director will be Joaquín Gálvez. The registration price will be €5 and the capacity is limited to 24 participants. It is important to highlight the amateur nature of the contest, so the participation of professionals related to the world of oenology or sommelier is not allowed.

All participants will be given their diploma accrediting participation in the contest and a bottle of wine as a gift from the Regulatory Council at its facilities after the end of the morning contest.

In the afternoon session, the first three classified will receive a cash prize; €200 for first place, €150 for second place, and €100 for third place. Likewise, these first 3 classified will be awarded the contest trophy.

In the afternoon, a conference will be held in the auditorium by Joaquín Gálvez, oenologist, tasting teacher, winemaking consultant and presenter on TV and radio programs. He is popularly known as Wineman, his professional career being highly recognized internationally, currently carrying out the TV program "Wineman" dedicated to the world of wine, expanding and developing it all over the world. He has worked in Bordeaux, California, Australia and Chile. He teaches tasting courses in Spain, the US and Hispanic-America. After the conference, the awards ceremony for the morning contest will take place.

I would like to thank the Minerva Squad Association for the collaboration of the entities and people involved in this project, which allow this contest to take place every year, especially the Yecla City Council and its Department of Tourism, and also Ruta del Wine and the Yecla Wine Regulatory Council, since without their help and collaboration, holding this event as we understand it today would not be possible.
