Bodegas La Purisima, Bodegas Castaño, Bodegas Barahonda and Casa de las Especias Vineyards are already in Hong Kong to participate in the Vinexpo fair that takes place from tomorrow until May 31 in Hong Kong.
The PDO participates in the parallel activities of the fair organized by the Spanish Wine Federation, through the tasting "Yecla, the land of the Ecological Monastrell" where will be announced seven organic wines from these wineries. The tasting will take place on May 29, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Vinexpo Hong Kong is the last and most important of the fairs that have integrated this year the calendar of international samples of the Denomination of Origin Yecla, and the main protagonist of the strategy of opening of the Asian market that the Council is developing.
The exports of Spanish wine to the Asian continent broke records in 2017, according to the Spanish Wine Federation, with 206.6 million liters (+ 32.5%) and 325.8 million euros (+ 16.8%), a 9% of the volume and 11.4% of the total value exported by Spain, the historical maximum. Hong Kong is one of the most important markets for Spanish wine in Asia. In 2017 it was the third export destination, behind China and Japan.
Hong Kong imported 3.6 million liters (+ 11.9%) worth 18 million euros (+ 27%). For Hong Kong, Spain is the fifth importer in volume and the seventh in value. The average price of Spanish wine reached € 4.99 / liter in 2017. The majority of exports (60.8%) were wines with DO.
