ABOUT THE IWC
THE MOST INFLUENTIAL TASTING CONTEST OF THE WORLD
The objective of the IWC is to recognize the excellence and quality of wines, as well as to help consumers choose some of the best wines in the world.
The International Wine Challenge (IWC) was founded in 1984, and currently enjoys a reputation as one of the most respected blind tasting competitions where judges rate each wine by its style, region and vintage.
The IWC has grown enormously in the 35 years of life, with the participation of wines from all over the world. And, consequently, we work with a large international jury to compete in the contest.
The rigorous qualification method is based on the fact that each wine awarded with a medal will be tasted on three different occasions by a minimum of 11 international judges.
The IWC is divided into two phases: Tranche 1 and Tranche 2, which together form the IWC 2018 contest.
- Tranche 1 is celebrated in November and the results are announced in December.
- Tranche 2 is celebrated in April and the results are announced in May.
Medals
The IWC 2018 has two dates of publication of medals, the first is November 30, 2017 for the wines of the
Tranche 1, and the second, on May 10, 2018, for the wines of Tranche 2.
At this stage, the wines will receive a Gold, Silver or Bronze Medal or they will receive a Commended Award. The wines that do not receive a medal or prize are considered 'out'.
The wines awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals will have received the highest praise from our judges. Those awarded with Recommendations (Commended) are the wines that missed the opportunity to win a medal, but which the IWC judges consider worthy of mention.
